A highly anticipated new restaurant is finally opening its doors in Mere Green, and we have a huge weekend of events ahead including the World Cup Quarter-Finals.
But first — the local traffic situation is looking incredibly heavy this week. Here are the locations most likely to cause delays over the coming week.
🚨 Critical Traffic Warnings
Jockey Road — Two Overlapping Disruptions:
July 14–16: South Staffordshire Water lane closure by Windsor Road/George Road junction, outside the New Oscott Post Office and Asda. Knock-on delays expected towards the A453 College Road junction
July 13–24: Severn Trent Water two-way signals near Plants Close junction heading towards Boldmere
Four Oaks Closures:
Belwell Lane (July 9–14): Full closure for carriageway resurfacing in front of All Saints Church and The Four Oaks pub, from Four Oaks Road up to Lichfield Road
Four Oaks Road (July 15–16): Full closure for road markings at junctions with Hartopp Road, Streetly Lane and Luttrell Road
Clarence Road (July 15–16): Full closure for pothole repairs at the Blake Street junction opposite Flames. Diversion via Rosemary Hill Road and Walsall Road.
🚧 Ongoing Local Disruptions
Stonehouse Road: Two-way signals July 14 outside number 33 near Monmouth Drive junction, moving to multi-way signals July 17 at the Stonehouse Road/Jockey Road junction.
Walmley Road (Reddicap area): Openreach multi-way signals July 14–16 by the double roundabout where Walmley Road meets Reddicap Heath Road and Fox Hollies Road. Outside Hollyfield Primary and Fairfax Academy — morning school run will be heavily affected.
Coleshill Road: Severn Trent overnight works July 13–14 (8pm–5am). Two-way signals outside Sutton Coldfield Post Office near Manor Road.

Baresca Tapas Opens Wednesday 22 July in Mere Green: Barcelona-inspired Baresca Tapas officially opens on Wednesday 22 July at the former Bistrot Pierre site on Mere Green Road. 150 covers inside, outdoor terrace and weekly Friday vinyl DJ sessions.
Sutton Gateway Scheme Progress: The £25 million Sutton Gateway Scheme is well into delivery — lower Parade revamp, Brassington Avenue overhaul and new cycleways linking Boldmere, Wylde Green and Sutton Park all progressing this year.
💛 Community Spotlight: Free Family Carfest This Saturday

The Visit Royal Sutton Coldfield BID is hosting a free Family Carfest on The Parade this Saturday July 11, 10am–4pm.
Seven iconic TV and film cars on display including the DeLorean from Back to the Future, the Batmobile, the Ectomobile from Ghostbusters and Lightning McQueen. Live music from Jason Allan and free face painting for kids.

The Jungle Book (Highbury Theatre Centre): Friday July 10, 7:30pm — Final Friday night showing.
Legally Blonde Jr! (Plantsbrook School): Friday July 10, doors 7pm — Local students in musical theatre.
England vs Norway World Cup Quarter-Final: Saturday July 11. The Royal is hosting a live screening, doors 5pm, last entry 7pm, kick-off 10pm. Tickets limited — book ahead.
Family Carfest (The Parade): Saturday July 11, 10am–4pm. Free entry.
