Morning everyone,

Here’s your quick 3-minute rundown of what’s actually happening locally in Sutton Coldfield this Bank Holiday weekend.

🚨 Local News & Council Updates

  • Walmley Road Sinkhole: A massive sinkhole—described by a local councillor as a "cavern"—has opened up on Walmley Road near the Rugby Club due to a collapsed sewer. The road is completely closed, causing major disruption locally. Severn Trent crews remain on-site carrying out emergency repairs.

  • Regeneration Funding Endorsed: The government has officially backed Royal Sutton Coldfield's Pride in Place Regeneration Plan, unlocking a programme of £20 million investment over the next decade aimed at improving the town centre and Sutton Park.

  • New Political Voices: The Town Council election results are now confirmed. While Conservatives still hold the majority of seats, Sutton has now elected its first-ever Green Party and Reform councillors.

  • Bank Holiday Weather: We are in for a proper scorcher. Friday stays mild with sunny intervals and highs around 17°C. Saturday remains pleasant at 16°C, before temperatures soar on Sunday with sunshine and highs hitting 28°C. BBQ weather has officially arrived.

This Bank Holiday Weekend:

  • Walmley Road: Fully closed in both directions near the Rugby Club due to the sinkhole. Avoid the area completely where possible.

  • Stonehouse Road: Two-way signals begin on Bank Holiday Monday (May 25) through to Friday (May 29) for South Staffs Water works.

Next week — plan ahead:

  • Clarence Road (Hill Hook): Two-way signals from Tuesday (May 26) to Friday (May 29) for service connection works.

  • Streetly Lane & Blake Street: Multi-way signals from Wednesday (May 27) through to Friday (May 29).
